It just hit me today that Thanksgiving is only 10 days away….just a week and a half left until it’s time to slice the bird and enjoy time together with family. November is always a big month in my family. It’s my mom & I’s birthday month & Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I spoke with a friend on the phone last week who shares the same birthday as I do and we were talking about how we were celebrating. She said something that really resonated with me. She said, “Even though there are things that I would like to have of course, I really could not be more blessed. I have a husband, 2 children and a wonderful group of friends.”
The more that I thought about it, the more my sentiments echoed her own. Even though from a young age we are taught to want more, celebrate ourselves on our birthdays and to truly think of it as a day to indulge on ourselves we should use our birthdays as we do Thanksgiving to truly give praise to our Maker for letting us get to experience things like joy and happiness, food and family. I can never express how thankful I am to the Lord for truly blessing me with loyal friends, a loving family, and a job that I love where I am surrounded by strong Christian women and men here at E-Mealz.
I hope that this Thanksgiving and yes, even on your birthday, you can count it true joy to be a Christ follower and find your true happiness in Him. Take the time to not only praise Him for who He is and creating you as well as the blessings you are surrounded by in those you love and your health. A fun way we’ve decided to implement this into our family this year is to play a little game at the dinner table.
To play thankful draw, write everyone’s name at your Thanksgiving dinner table down on a sheet of paper. Take the names and toss them in a hat (bonus points if it’s a pilgrim’s hat!). Before or after dinner, take the hat and pass it around letting everyone draw a name. Have each person go around and share whose name they drew and why they are thankful for that person. Enjoy spreading some love and thanks around the table before or after the food!
