I love cooking with buttermilk; however, I don’t always have it on hand every time I would like to use it. My mother-in-law passed down a homemade waffle recipe that requires buttermilk and my kids love it. On the weekends, they will get up and say “We want waffles and not from the freezer.” I have learned over the years that if I don’t have buttermilk, I can make my own. Use the recipe below and you won’t have to worry about whether you have buttermilk in your refrigerator. Enjoy!
- 3/4 cup (175 ml) regular milk
- 2 tsp (10 ml) vinegar or lemon juice
- add 2 tsp (10 ml). vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk, let stand a few minutes to sour.
