Ways to Save: Homemade Fabric Freshener

Submit to StumbleUpon

We’re doing a series to see just how much money you can save this school year if you change up a few items in your home to a DIY project instead of just grabbing it at the grocery store. One of our favorite projects was this DIY Febreze. It only has 3 ingredients: baking soda, fabric softener, and warm water. All items are probably things you have around your home already!

After mixing this up, we sprayed it around to give it the old sniff test and were quite pleased. In fact, a few of us have decided to start making it all the time like this at home. What are you waiting for? Get to mixing and spraying!

Homemade Fabric Freshener

Ingredients
  • ⅛ c of fabric softener
  • 2 T baking soda
  • Warm Tap Water
Instructions
  1. Place fabric softener and baking soda in spray bottle.
  2. Add enough warm tap water to fill up the bottle.
  3. Spray and enjoy the fresh scent!

DIY Fabric Freshener costs only about $.20 to make when you account for less than an ounce of fabric softener and a tiny dash of baking soda.

Compare to Febreze which retails for $3.34.

Total DIY Savings:  $3.14 Each*

*If you purchased 1 bottle of Febreze per month, that’s a Savings of $37.68 per year!

(We got this idea from Pinterest.)

      Hi Melanie,
We used a 30 oz bottle and then poured it out into smaller bottles to make it more handy and have them around the office and home. Enjoy!
